Am I the only one?....

Who longs for Nikon to release a 50 1.8G lens, so that I have one that will autofocus on my D40? As it is, I could spend $500 for a 50 1.4G that will autofocus on my camera, or spend $800+ to buy a new camera so I can use a $125 lens. Cmon, Nikon, how hard can it be?

Yes, and that does give the same field of view as the 50 when used on a crop sensor. The reason I like the 50 on a cropped sensor is it gives the same field of view as the 85 1.8 does on a FF camera, perfect for portraits.

Excellent reason IMHO for wanting the 50mm. During yesterday's photowalk, we of course we're talking about gear. One of the pros told someone that the only reason to upgrade a body was when you realized it was limiting your vision and/or creativity. Sounds like you might be there?

Yes, that's definatly true. Back in my film days, I used an F4s as my main camera, so I'm used to handling pro equipment. When choosing my D40, I was getting back into shooting seriously, and had budget constraints. My camera gives me results I'm happy with though, so no complaints there. I believe improved glass is more beneficial to me at this point, so that's what I'm concentrating on.

It's always something, camera body, lenses, software, computers and next month it seems to start over. We always seem to be searching the tools that make our shots better, mostly wish list for me also, the $'s stop me also. Glad to see a fellow New Mexican on the forum.

Not that I am trying to talk you into a new camera but with the replacement for the D90 coming out you might be able to pick one up used soon for a great deal. Would be a nice upgrade to your D40 and allow you to use those lenses without a SWM in them.

Yes, With my D60, like the D40 you are somewhat limited to lenses. I am looking at the new 55-300 lense that is out. Does anyone have a need for a 55-200 VR lense?

I sold my 55-200 the day I ordered the 55-300. Well actually I traded it for a 28mm f2.8. I think the wide angle will make a nice addition to my bag. I have now received my 55-300 and have reviewed it here with some pics. I really like it. I would not hesitate to recommend it.
