    My newest ride

At the age of 77, I still find that I need fun vehicles. For many years, Harley-Davidson was the source of things to complement my every day driver (EDD). Several years ago, that changed and motorcycles were replaced by 2 seat convertibles, specifically Mazda MX-5s (Miatas). It started with a 2008 Touring model that was subsequently traded for a 2016 Club. Last week, I decided that I'd take advantage of the rising value of used cars and trade the 2016 for a 2021 Club model. It has more horsepower than its predecessor although the charm of Miatas is not their power or speed. It's their handling that makes them so much fun IMO - sort of like driving a go kart.

BTW, my EDD is pretty fun too.

    1961 Studebaker Hawk GT

On the last Saturday of each month, people bring their classic or modified cars and pickup trucks (it's Texas, after all ) to our downtown area and display them around the historic square. As one would expect, many of the same vehicles are shown month after month. Occasionally, though, one that's not seen too often shows up. Today was one of those times when I saw a car I'd not seen before. The uniqueness of this car is described below.

"A 4-speed floor shift manual transmission became standard for 1961. Studebaker produced a total of 78,664 cars for 1961. Studebaker also produced a limited edition Studebaker Hawk called the 'Gran Turismo' and featured a four-barrel carbureted V8 mated to a four-speed transmission. They also had a dash plaque with the owner's name engraved on it. This model was different from the Gran Turismo Hawks that was offered between 1962 through 1964."

My daughter arriving at the Rose Bowl for her MS and MBA graduation. The car is a Porsche 911 Cabriolet my son-in-law is reviewing for CNET Roadshow. Not a bad EDD if you have a spare 200K.

Thanks. Wicked proud of her. Three years right across Covid. Put in for a post-grad internship at a big data company and they hired her instead at a shocking salary. I told her I'm thinking D5 for my birthday...

Two door Volkswagen Golf MK-5 GTI spotted earlier this week at the Post Office. I've always loved the looks and size of this generation, sold in the U.S. from about 2004 to 2010. That's my '21 Cornflower Blue MK-7.5 in the background.

As I was shooting the MK-5, a 2019 MK-7.5 Rabbit special edition in Cornflower Blue pulled in. In an instant, we had our own little VW car show with three rarities. I stupidly forgot to take a picture of the two Cornflowers. The odds of finding two together in one place is nearly as rare as a solar eclipse.
