I don't know about a Tardis inside, but the ones that are left here usually smell of urine.
When living in London, they used to be known some years ago as the big red pissers.

If I remember rightly, when the mobile phone started to take off in the UK, British Telecom started removing them and replacing them with much fewer, cheaper to maintain boxes... There was a bit of an uproar at the time as people saw them as part of the country's identity... A bit like the red double decker buses in London. Most of the old red boxes like the one in the picture were auctioned off / sold by BT. Quite a few went to collectors who use them as all sorts... I saw one that became a mini greenhouse full of tomato plants once!
