Ice Soap Bubbles

with it being 6 degrees this morning I figured I would try this and see how it went. The wind was blowing so hard it would rip the bubbles up as they froze.I managed to get one to stay together long enough for a pic. When it calms down I am goin to try it again.I saw this here somewhere(backdoor hippie?) and thought it looked cool, only working with the tamron 18-270 so the macro is not goin to be as sharp as I like but what the hay

Nice. It was -2 when I got up but too windy to keep anything in place.

Just so you know, my shots weren't done with a macro, just a regular 24-120mm f/4. It'll be cold again tomorrow, but hopefully not as windy.

Got up early this morning to catch the light and the calm...I have a bunch to process but I think I nailed it pretty good with my limited skills. These are right out of the camera, minimal processing...

Nicely done. I decided that I am going to stay warm today as I'd like to shake this bug I'm fighting, so I'm glad someone is taking advantage of the weather.

Couple of hints..you need it calm, real calm...dont make the bubble too big or it will poof out and just fall apart..I was getting a few around 2 inches across, after three it was too much for them.you can watch them freeze as they go.I also caught the bubble after I made it and turned the stick so that it was upright on it.after it froze I placed it on some fresh snow that was powdery so it hid the stick some, the rest I could clone out.I read up on it and it was suggested to thicken the bubble stuff with sugar, corn syrup or corn starch.I tried sugar and corn starch and it helped for sure.you will still get a lot of poofs but some stick around enough for pics.I also set up into the rising sun to take advantage of the light...it was pretty cool, although the wife thought I was crazy getting up to do it...:)

I might do this tomorrow morning before work.
