D60 professional camera

Is D60 a professional camera. It is my nephew's birthday and he wants to become a photographer so I was thinking of gifting him that.Is this correct?

The d90 is on the lower end of dSLR's. It would be a good beginner camera for him. If you want something newer, consider the D3000 or D5000.
