Made me wonder if you were here in Pennsylvania. There was a young black bear that meandered into the suburbs within the past week! Fortunately they were able to tranquilize it and move it elsewhere.

These guys and their humpy backed brothers live in this area year round. We rarely have any problems because most people, certainly the locals, know to treat them with respect.

My second thought was perhaps the image was taken in a zoo or some type of wildlife sanctuary. However, hearing this guy is wandering freely...well...be careful! ;)

Most of the time Black bears are quite shy and will avoid human interaction. A few years ago this young and very wet bear paid us a surprise visit. Sorry about the picture quality, these were shot with an ipad.

I am so jealous. I have never seen a wild bear, even though I spend time in eastern NC (bear crossing warnings), and spent a lot of time in Wyoming and Montana looking for them.
