Top shots , were they backyard or in the sticks ? Whatever well done .

Backyard (5 acres). there were actually two of them having a ball chasing around but I screwed up the moving shots of both together by using too slow a shutter speed. They are regular visitors so I'm hoping for another chance.

Wow, those are great!

How close to them were you? Did you have to crop?

I was standing in the doorway between 25 and 50 feet from them. They were having too much fun to bother about me.

We are very remote here, 1/2 mile from the nearest building and surrounded by wilderness and open range. Because of this the wildlife tends to be fairly unafraid of humans as long as you don't startle them. These pictures of Moose http://nikonites.com/wild-life/32622-wolfs-deer-bears-2.html#axzz3s4tVR6dl were taken from 75 feet standing against the side of my truck.

I cropped a little on a couple of them to remove dirty snow pushed up by my plow blade.

Thanks for the tip Scott. I'm still coming to grips with the Nik plugins so any advice is welcome.
The thing with snow is that your camera and its software will get it wrong and under expose and use the incorrect WB for the image, adjust your WB to suit the foxes coat and you cannot go wrong :) I adjusted it in LR.

I'm patiently waiting for our "BC wolfs" to show up, they normally do at this time of year. I don't mean Wolves, though we do occasionally see them, I mean Coyotes. We have a large resident population that "sings" almost every night and I frequently find their tracks in the yard in the mornings. As the weather gets colder (-24 Celsius is forecast next week) they become more active during the day presenting photo opportunities. The cold weather also brings Lynx visitors during daylight hours. Here's hoping:encouragement:

We have a small pack of coyotes here year round. They just love to harass the neighborhood dogs .... yip, yip, yip all night long. I'm thinking of taking up trapping again. One gets a good price for their pelts but boy oh boy do they stink!

This is the best shot I got of the pair and one processed in NIK HDR

If I may suggest something, and I hope I'm not out of line here. Your D7100 has 2 User banks. (U1 and U2) Get out your manual, or better yet watch a few youtube vids on how to set them up.

Use these or at least one of these user banks to save an action shot setting.. High shutter speed ,over 1/1000th of a second (mine is set to 1/1600th) Continuous focus (AF-C) and auto ISO.
Your D7100, will handle 3200 ISO in decent light .

This way, you have very quick access to these settings, without having to fiddle, while your subjects disappear out of sight.
