Circle B Bar Reserve Feb 4 2015 Meet 'n Greet

On February 4th, four Nikonites (Marilynne, Rodbender, richnmib and Whiskeyman) met at the Circle B Bar Reserve near Lakeland, Florida for a chance to meet one another in person and spend part of the day practicing our photography habit.

Marilynne also brought along her husband, Chris, who was kind enough to take this shot of us at the end of the day. (Since he now has this photo on our site, I guess he needs to become a member, too.)

A big thanks to Kevin (Rodbender) and Marilynne for starting the planning for this trip back in November of last year, as well as to both Kevin and Rich (richnmib) for their patience and sharing of their local knowledge of the reserve.

I had a great time, and look forward to the next opportunity to do something like this.

Betcha can't guess which one is me!! I couldn't hold my camera any longer so it's on the table behind us.

It was a long morning. Rich (@richnmib), Kevin (@Rodbender) and Wayne (@whiskeyman) arrived before 7am. Chris and I got there at 9am and we all left after 1pm. We really enjoyed the park and the company. Haven't started processing my photos yet and I'm sure you're going to be seeing a lot of repeats from all of us.

It's always great to get together with friends you meet on these type of forums. I've met with several folks around the country via off road sites and hope to do the same with folks here during our travels.

Nice shot of the four of you. Now...from left to right...who's who? :)

The only one I've met from Nikonites in person is Marcel when he came to Calgary a couple of years ago. :)

It was a pleasure to spend the day with everyone and put a name to a face. I usually go out there by myself so some company was very welcome. I appreciate the fact that everyone came from far away to experience the Circle B. I hope the next one is just as entertaining. So thank you Kevin, Wayne, Marilynne and Chris. Wayne I hope your foot was not too bad the next day. I am still culling photos. I hope to have some up soon.

It's nice that all of you had some time to spend together shooting. Will be we seeing your photos in this thread, or will you upload them elsewhere?

Some will get uploaded to this thread and some likely elsewhere.

Here is a Zebra Longwing, the Official State Butterfly of Florida.

Zebra-1.jpg

This one's a bit tattered, which is typical for one near the end of its lifespan, which can last up to about six months if food sources of both nectar and pollen are available. Once eclosed, predation isn't such an issue for this butterfly, which is toxic to most, if not all of the typical predators.

Here is an Osprey with its catch. There was another Osprey watching this one closely, as well as a good sized murder of crows close by, waiting for this one to discard its meal, or to just get careless with it.

This young Great Blue Heron raised quite a racket while we were there. It obviously wasn't getting what it wanted from its parents at the moment.
