Deer at Beaver Lake

My much anticipated Oly 40-150 2.8 Pro (80-300 equivalent) finally arrived this week. It is without a doubt the finest lens I have ever owned, but I'll tread lightly with that thought around here :). I was fortunate enough to find a group of 5 deer this morning. I'm very pleased with this lens.

Great deer pictures. Really cool being that close too.
I'm so torn on which lens to get for nature and deer photography - and such different lenses (tamzooka or 70-200 2.8). If i thought most shots would be 50 yards or less it would be a no brainer and get the fast lens i always wanted.

Not really that close, most shot at about 20-50 yards. They are about 50-75% crops. Always go for the better lens if you can, the 2.8 if you are shooting a Dx it will give you the same 300mm equivalent I had on these shots.

I own both lenses and whilst the 70-200 is stunning, you benefit from the reach of the Tamron at 10-20 yards not 50+. I was surprised how much of a difference the long lens made.

Wow. What crystal-clear shots! Love the bokeh. I think I can see you reflected in that last image, when I made the image larger!

And not taking *anything* away from the equipment....methinks it is the photographer that makes these shots Great...
