I went out this afternoon looking for the mulies and came upon the largest herd of mule deer I have ever seen in my entire life. There must have been at least 50 of them, from yearlings to the Alpha buck. I drove back like a bat out of hell and put on my BDU’s, grabbed the D700, tripod, 300mm and 600mm Nikkors and set up at a barbed we fence and just waited. They saw me and all turned around to look. Click! One snorted and the entire herd pronked away for about 50 yards. I just waited and eventually several does got curious again and headed towards for me. Click! One very inquisitive doe came very close to me. Click!
