HB-45 or HB-45 II

According to Nikon it's the HB-45. The HB-69 is for the VR II version. I don't know if the HB-45 II even exists.

Go OEM. The 3rd party hoods for that lens are prone to cracking, dad has gone through two cheapos already.

OK, thanks for your replies. I will get the 'proper' one though, it's not that much more expensive.

Cheap lenses can take good shots too.

The 18-55 is a very under rated lens. Don't discount it too quickly. It will serve you for many years to come.
