i have just upgraded to a fx camera and having a hard time on deciding about a wide angle lens
i currently have the sigma 10-20 which i love but is a waste on the fx

undecided on fisheye or rectiliniar (not sure on terminology)

i have seen a zenitar 16mm of which i have seen mixed reviews but like the idea of

The 16-35 would give a similar experience in FX.

by which manufacturer ?

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the Nikon 16-35mm f4. It should give you over 100degree perspective and has a $260 rebate running right now. If you're looking at that lens I would also consider the Tamron 15-35mm f2.8 as well. I have the 16-35 and have been very happy with the results.

You might want to check out this thread regarding alternatives to the the Nikon. Also, for examples of images from some of the lenses discussed in responses here, take a look at this thread which might be useful.

Personally I shoot the Sigma 12-24 which I chose after using a Sigma 10-20 for years on DX. I posted a sample image shortly after purchase here.

The Rokinon (Samyang) 14mm is a manual focus FX lens with 114 degree field of view. In super-wide situations, AF should not really be a consideration because almost everything is focused close to infinity. One weekend at the beach with a bunch of drunk professionals, I pulled out the 14mm for a day of shooting, including a lighthouse climb. As you can see from the horizon curvature, these pics have not been put through a lens-correction filter on PS.

This lens is $350 at BH Photo and feels like a giant antique glass door knob.

The only problem with the 14mm (yes I have one too) is the moustache distortion, but it is a great sharp lens and apparently there is a lens correction plugin you can add to LR which I have since lost and need to find again. I use it for milkyway shots and lightning shots but it is also great for landscape if you can fix the distortion.

I don't know if you used this one:

Rokinon 14mm Lightroom Lens Profile - Sven Stork

There's another out there but I'd have to start looking myself.

In regards to the post: I use the 14mm and 24mm Samyang which are two of the optically sharpest wides available for my cam. There's hardly any that can compete with them at the level of sharpness. But it does come at a price.

Here's an unsharpened full shot with the Samyang 24mm and a 100% cropped part. I only upped the exposure a bit in post and used the lens + cam profile. Since it was a DNG I got from the other computer it might have had the standard minimal sharpening Adobe uses. I'm not sure.

It's shot at 5.6 but she's sharper at 2.8. The 14mm does equally well and at some f/ slightly better. The 14mm is a very good and cheap lens. The 24mm costs a bit more.
