Would you buy it now if you didn't have it?
Being new to modern cameras and lenses, i've quickly found out there is no perfect landscape lens. Especially within my price range. Don't want to spend upwards of a grand on another lens.
If i didn't shoot the sun so much the Tokina 11-16 would be a no brainer, but i love sunsets enough that every little bit of additional flare is a concern.
Like to see pics from this lens, your thoughts on it (sweet spot), etc., I had no idea wide angle lenses could cause such confusion. A 16-18 prime would be a consideration as well, but i keep coming back to the sigma thinking it might be what i'm looking for; but i wouldn't want a lens with any less quality than my kit Nikon 18-140.
I realize this subject has been beat to death but i gotta ask anyhow.

I used to own this lens until I slipped on some rocks and fell on my camera and lens, the lens got killed but the body was fine. It is a great lens for the price. I decided to go for the Tokina 11-16mm as I shoot a lot at nightime and the f2.8 lured me in, but like you have mentioned the flare issues are a real problem even with the mkII version. I bought the f4-5.6 initially for night time light painting which is usually around the f8 mark but now I'm more into night photography I would pay the extra for the fixed f3.5 version.

Thanks for your thoughts Martin, I don't know, the more i think about the choices the more frustrated i get. It's not like there's a dead ringer for these focal lengths.

siamthai1, i didn't realize you used this lens. Always like your images.
For my use it would stay on f/8 or f/11, focused a few feet in front of me and shoot away.

I don't see any flare here. https://www.flickr.com/photos/117211217@N08/15763036597/in/set-72157649615073895
I would go with the 11-16 for sunset shots all day long. When using an UWA lens, most flare will come from the sides at an angle. If you practice enough you can shoot sunsets with any lense .

feel free to look in my "sunset" album on Flickr. Most were taken with the Tokina 11-16mm lens

Thanks, i will look into it. The quality of that lens makes it tempting regardless. From what i see the sharpness would keep me happy.

I started a thread when I got mine. Today I can handle it better I guess *LOL*

Here I did, maybe everyone does when getting a new lens, some testing:

Thank You very much, so many great photos!
Between you and Lee i've looked at so many photos today my eyes are fuzzy. Then a couple hours ago i was reading about landscape lenses somewhere and they mentioned a new Tokina 11-20 that just came out the last couple days. It's supposed to have addressed the flare issue as well. This wide angle lens stuff is driving me crazy. I'd probably lose my mind over it but it's already missing.
