Tamron SP 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD (Model A012) lens pricing and availability announced | Photo Rumors

I am psyched!! as I estimated in other posts. $1100. if the tests show what Tamron were saying (which was that its going to surpass all WA zooms, including the legendary 14-24 AFS) this will be an excellent seller. 1100grams. its supposed to be even bigger than nikons 14-24. bigger is better :)

a few months back I posted a thread looking for an upgrade to my Tamron 17-35 2.8-4 and wondered why they werent revamping it. they one upped it.

and another post noted two new primes coming from them as well. im hoping a 50 and 85 1.4. damn. my wallet will be quite light.

with all those corrective elements and coatings this thing looks like it was done right. flourine on front element and is what nikons showing here

yes some may not like the bulbous front element, but for me, Im not a filters man. I might make my own diy holder and get it printed with a 3d printer and buy filters down the line.

now the wait for reviews begins. will get this around march april when any buys might show.

That looks like a terrific lens. This could possibly push my 16-35 f4 out of my bag for sure. I'm extremely impressed with what Tamron's been releasing lately.

if you can deal with the bulbous front, having VC and 2.8 kinda makes it the logical choice for less money, 2.8 and for less money. and im certain will surpass the 14-24 AFS. the tokina 16-28 was a great performer but the tamron will jump over the nikon, im almost certain. killer price as well. well, not cheap...

from the MTF it looks like it will surpass the nikon. tests will reveal if its true. the Tamron seems to have a more complex design. well it is newer since the 14-24 was announced in 2007 and no one has challenged them till today. pretty impressive.

Tamron has quietly put out a fantastic trinity while Nikon continues to sleep on prior successes, over and over again.

from tests Tamrons VC is a better performer as well. VC in the 24-70 is so useful. many videogs bought that lens becuase of it. the new A7II is a complete game changer and I wonder if the A7SII will have the stabilizer as well.

nikon puts out great gear, it just seems the other are in full effort to bring something better. I think nikon is waking from its coma now but well see the new changes in the near future. the last 6-4 quarterly revenues were bad and nikon made internal changes.

I think in CP+ february well see some at least 1 art lens being annoucned by sigma as well. wondering what 2 primes tamron will announce.im hoping 50 and 85. ill even take f/2 with VC in them, as I dont think its possible at 1.4

since I dont understand the language, I used google translate and it seems the lens has a mount gasket.

TAMRON | SP 15-30mm F/2.8 Di VC USD [Model A012] レンズ・テクノロジー

the front has flourine coating. 9 rounded aperture. 1:5 macro reproduction which is better than the 14-24 1:6.7. thats impressive.

sample images shown here are small and hard to judge but look excellent. I have no doubt this will surpass the 14-24 AFS.

TAMRON | SP 15-30mm F/2.8 Di VC USD [Model A012] ボケ味と多彩な表現

Now I want to see a 50 and 85 thats killer sharp like an ART lens. wow some great stuff coming from 3rd party MFR in 2015.

most definitely. every ART lens sigma released was better than nikons equivalent. that says a lot.

1-sigma was a lazy f*** till now
2-nikon is a lazy f*** now

build quality is better on the art vs nikons cheap plastic. and af is slower as well on the nikons.

tamrons 90 is an excellent performer so I have no doubt they will produce killer lenses. whatever the next primes will be, im sure theyll be stellar.

nikon canon and sony are sweating.

I searched all over for a UWA when I moved to FX at the beginning of the year. I finally decided on the Sigma 12-24 f/4.5-5.6 DG HSM II. Quite a good lens but if this was available. . . it might have been a different story. The curved lens takes some getting used to - while we were in Hawaii I did miss the ability to used a CPL. The other question I would have is the lens cap - the Nikon has a funky soft cap while the Sigma cap is a two piece hard plastic design.

You won't be able to live with yourself until you complete the trinity :). Tamron makes some m43 lenses, hope they continue in that format as well.

@rocketman122 - I think that Nikon's 14-24 mm f/2.8 is the best wide angle lens out there right now...as far as zooms are concerned.

as of now, that is correct. my intuition says not for long though. but we will wait and see. but given the fact that it took 7 years for someone to create something that surpasses the 14-24, that says a lot to me.

but for $1000 and VC, and a better range, I think it will slow down sales for the lens and in fact well see a lot that will sell their 14-24 and pocket the extra $500 when they get the tamron. but I think we will see the first review within 2-3 weeks at most.

unlike the 24-70 and 70-200 which were great but not made to surpass the equivalent, this UWA is going to be something else. flourine coatings and tons of corrective elements. if it just equals it, im happy. great upgrade to my senior citizen 17-35 2.8-4. my eye isnt on this so much now since im just waiting for the right time to buy, not if. I want to see an 85 1.4 and a 50mm 1.4

the nikon 14-24 doesnt have a soft cap. its a plastic cap.

wait for the reviews. I have a feeling youll sell the sigma ;)

I remember when the sigma ART 18-35 1.8 came out in DPreview. they did a preview and showed 2-3 pics and everyone was skeptic. they said, no way can this be good. dpreview said AMAZING! but no one accepted it. we are here in the situation. add to that, that we all love nikon and god forbid nikon isnt the best in something...god forbid..

I just read that Tokina is coming out with an 11-20 DX lens to replace the venerable 11-16. Interesting. :)

Also, Tokina is coming out with a 70-200 F4 in the $1400 range. Also interesting!

the 11-20 looks nice but for DX users. the 70-200 if it sells for more than $1100 with the tripod collar, is overpriced. best to get the nikon.

personally, id get the tamron 70-200 2.8 VC for that price.
