Snow White
Rural Landscape in BW
Weekly Challenge: April 8 – April 15 (2012)

It may be time to do a “simple, down-to-earth” theme. Your challenge is to capture a rural landscape in black and white. You can either capture it in BW straight in the camera, or convert to BW in post processing. Both methods are acceptable.

Judging criteria will be based on the Twelve Elements of a Merit Image.

These challenges are designed to help you grow in your photography skills and creativity, and also to have fun.
Be sure to visit the Weekly Challenge Rules & Guidelines for more information. This thread will be closed on April 15 (midnight EDT)...so get those photos in!

The Rules
1. Photos must be posted to the thread in order to be considered for the challenge.
2. Any photo submitted for a weekly challenge must be taken during the dates specified in the challenge thread and taken by you! Because not all EXIFdata can be verified, we will use the honor system here.
3. Challenges will be judged solely by the panel. Individual voting via post "likes" will be incorporated into the final selection of the winning photo.
4. Only one photo entry per member, for each challenge, unless otherwise indicated.

There will be no cash or prizes awarded for the Weekly Challenge, unless specifically noted by the site administrator. This is a member-run contest, and the purpose of the Weekly Challenge is to encourage member participation on the forums and to keep you taking pictures!

Any photo will be accepted for the challenge. Edited/straight out of the camera, it does not matter. You are left with complete freedom to do whatever genre of photography you wish to do, and your own interpretation of the challenge subject.

This is not for judging since it was not shot this week. Some of you might recognize it as Jacob's house from Twilight. The house is located near Vancouver.

Here is a picture of a cathedral that I took yesterday. At the time that this cathedral was built, there was only about 500 people living in the city.

This turned out to be my favorite. The setting sun was casting shadows under the cloudy skies. The original color photo is in my gallery. I never thought the old dilapidated barn across the road would be so interesting to me. I took several angles and will most likely make a photo cluster for my home decor.

I went for a ride this morning for about 90 minutes. I took about 40 shots. This is the one I chose to submit for the challenge.

I also wanted to share this one because it speaks volumes about the area where I live. Cajuns are very religious people. This is a crawfish pond/rice field. The farmer has his cross, and I have no doubt that this man has his field blessed every year.

All of my shots from this morning can be found at https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150654546536345.380229.515016344&type=3 . I had a hard time deciding which one(s) to share here with my Nikonite friends. They all speak volumes about the fine Cajun people of Southwest Louisiana. I'm not originally from here, but I will spend the rest of my life here. I'm proud to be an Honorary Cajun.

wind was blowing pretty good today. . .(thus the trees not as sharp as i would have liked) . . .but i didnt want to loose the opportunity of the clouds, as we are in between storms right now. . .dont have too many "rural" areas in my neck of the woods (suburbs) so i hope this qualifies. . .lol. . .anyways. . .heres my attempt. . .(messed around with some hdr here too. . .)
