"Product Photography" - dh photography's Choice

Exploring the photographic genres some more, this week's topic is "Product Photography". This can be anything, with the concept being to isolate a subject as though the photograph was to be used for commercial purposes. If can be a product, fashion, etc., and even if you don't have a studio to use, there are creative ways to pull this week's topic off. So, let's see how creative you can be! Color, B&W, HDR...anything goes!

DO NOT SHOOT OR POST IMAGES UNTIL WEDNESDAY June 1
This early announcement of the topic is to give a little think time, before the challenge begins. Photos must be taken and submitted between 00:00 UTC of the start date and 00:00 UTC of the end date.

The Rules

1. Photos must be captured with a Nikon and appear in the thread with EXIF info in order to be considered for the challenge. If the forum EXIF viewer does not show for any reason, listing the camera and capture date/time below the photo is acceptable. Listing exposure info, lens & focal length is encouraged so others can learn.

2. Any photo submitted for a weekly challenge must be taken during the dates specified in the challenge thread.

3. Only one photo entry per member for each week, unless otherwise noted.

4. All regularly active members of Nikonites are allowed to participate, including moderators and administrators.

Voting

During the submission & like periods, please click the Thanks/Like button to vote for your favorite images. You can vote for as many as you want! At the end of the week, you will have the opportunity to vote again for the top 3 photos for this challenge!

There will be no cash or prizes awarded for the Weekly Photo Challenges, unless specifically noted by the site administrator.

Any photo will be accepted for the challenge. Edited or straight out of the camera, it does not matter. You are left with complete freedom to do whatever genre of photography you wish to do, and your own interpretation of the challenge subject.

David, since the time in your EXIF is so close to the start time, would you confirm the time is accurate? I'm assuming Central time based on your location, which has this image just 2 hours after the challenge starts. Just making sure. :)

Central time is correct. Showing 9:16PM my time which is what I thought was in the good by just a couple hours if the UTC calculator thing I googled was right. If it's too early, I have no problem reshooting the sequence again since it's still all set up downstairs.

All good. Thanks for confirming!

Last night, I stacked up a bunch of cans of canned food in various ways, and photographed them, hoping for a good “product” shot, and was dissatisfied with the results.

I was going to use one of those shots anyway, if I didn't get a better idea, and I really wasn't optimistic about that better idea.

So, earlier today,at about 14:00 PDT, I went off on a metal-detecting expedition, not even really thinking of this challenge. When I returned, about three hours later, I found that someone had added a decoration to the parking space next to mine. I felt compelled to take pictures of it, and after a while, to put my old 50mm ƒ/1.4 on, along with a heart-shaped cutout, and take more pictures. I still wasn't thinking of this challenge, just that this seemed to demand to have pictures taken of it.

I have no idea where this came from, who put it there, or why. All I know is that I'm fairly sure it wasn't there at around 14:00 PDT today, but it was there when I returned around 17:00 PDT, so someone put it up during that time. I also know that it's not my wife's size. At some point, I was unable to restrain my curiousity, so I took it down just long enough to read the label, and on establishing that it wasn't the right size for my wife, I put it back.

Perhaps it's a bit of a stretch, but I think that a picture like this might be used to advertise a product like this. In any event, I don't have anything better, so this is what I'm going to use.
