Weekly Challenge July 20-27
The winner of the Stop Action challenge was fotojack. He issued this challenge and will be judging the entries. Good luck everyone!
Everyone's got em, so let's see those sunsets! It doesn't matter if you live in Baltimore or the North Pole, everyone has access to the setting sun...so there should be a ton of entries this week.
Also, check out the Photographer's Ephemeris. We've mentioned it on the forums before and this challenge is the perfect time to give it a test drive if you haven't already. This is a free desktop program (and iPhone app) that will help you determine the best time of day to shoot a sunset at your location, among other things.
Be sure to visit the Weekly Challenge Rules & Guidelines for more information. This thread will be closed on July 27th...so get those photos in!
The Rules
- Photos must be posted to the thread in order to be considered for the challenge.
- Any photo submitted for a weekly challenge must be taken during the dates specified in the challenge thread and taken by you! Because not all EXIF data can be verified, we will use the honor system here.
- Challenges will be judged solely by the winner of the previous week. There will be no individual voting.
- Only one photo entry per member, for each challenge.
There will be no cash or prizes awarded for the Weekly Challenge, unless specifically noted by the site administrator. This is a member-run contest, and the purpose of the Weekly Challenge is to encourage member participation on the forums and to keep you taking pictures!
Any photo will be accepted for the challenge. Edited/straight out of the camera, it does not matter. You are left with complete freedom to do whatever genre of photography you wish to do, and your own interpretation of the challenge subject.Last edited by fotojack; 07-20-2011 at 08:44 PM.

Re: Weekly Challenge July 20-27: Sunsets
This picture was taken during a trip to Maui and therefore is not entered in the challenge.
My post this week comes early simply so I can make a post to ask for your prayers. I found out yesterday that I will be having double bypass surgery on Monday. They did an unsuccessful attempt at an angioplasty yesterday. I had a heart attack and quadruple bypass surgery in 2004, about three months prior to taking the picture I posted today. That trip was in celebration of my making it through that surgery. With the help of your prayers, and the prayers of many other friends, I will be posting more pictures from Hawaii. I have so much faith in the doctor that we are planning a trip to the "Big Island" next summer!
I have loved sharing with all my Nikonite friends. I hope to be posting more pictures in a few weeks.
With more sunsets to come,
Dave

Ohio is not known for its sunsets. I'm sure looking forward to more submissions, because awesome and colorful sunsets just aren't something I get to see in person.
We need a cornfields weekly challenge, or maybe trailer parks. Then I'd be in business!"You can't depend on your eyes if your imagination is out of focus." - Mark Twain

I'll give you a run for your money on that challenge. The boring flatlands of Illinois and Ohio, Right!?
I can see a new thread now:
Post your best Cornfield and Trailer Park Photos.
However this does give me and idea for a 365 shot.

You hang in there, Dave. I have every reason to believe you'll pull through this. You're a tough bugger!
I'll be thinking about you, and looking forward to seeing a lot more of your work in the future.

Re: Weekly Challenge July 20-27: Sunsets
Thanks Chris, that was the only one that was straight enough to post. I was driving west bound trying to get somewhere safe to pull over and wasn't having any luck so I clicked a few out the window before the colors were all gone.
Some of the nicest sunsets I ever have seen is in Wyoming. Not sure what it is but the sky turns Turquoise along with the normal gold and red.Ken
