Weekly Challenge: May 4-11

Jengajoh issued the previous challenge, "Abstract" and has chosen a winner. Due to the subject matter and the requirement to submit a photo for the new challenge...might as well point out that I was the winner. And yes, that's me up there.

As photographers, we are always the ones taking photos of others. Your challenge this week is to turn the camera on yourself. We have done this before with the Multiplicity challenge, which was very popular, so I know there aren't many camera-shy photographers on these boards!

Use this challenge as an opportunity to explore new techniques and/or settings. For me, the above photo was taken with a single strobe on low power, in the dark. The goal was to illuminate half the face and create a dark mood to the photo. Mission accomplished. Have fun with your own experiments!

Good luck and be sure to visit the Weekly Challenge Rules & Guidelines for more information. This thread will be closed on May 11th (midnight EDT)...so get those photos in!

The Rules

  1. Photos must be posted to the thread in order to be considered for the challenge.
  2. Any photo submitted for a weekly challenge must be taken during the dates specified in the challenge thread and taken by you! Because not all EXIF data can be verified, we will use the honor system here.
  3. Challenges will be judged solely by the winner of the previous week. There will be no individual voting.
  4. Only one photo entry per member, for each challenge.
There will be no cash or prizes awarded for the Weekly Challenge, unless specifically noted by the site administrator. This is a member-run contest, and the purpose of the Weekly Challenge is to encourage member participation on the forums and to keep you taking pictures!

Any photo will be accepted for the challenge. Edited/straight out of the camera, it does not matter. You are left with complete freedom to do whatever genre of photography you wish to do, and your own interpretation of the challenge subject.

Self Shot.

Thats my NEW hat I'm wearing. It cost almost $7.00. I know its kinda high, but I felt the need to splurge.

I bough this hat at Mitchell's Hardware down in New Bern.

That was a tasteless choice on the muggers part, perhaps you would like a cinnamon pun with that coffee?

I'm just glad the "Tasteless Mugger" didn't use a "bear claw" during the shoot!

No, I have not yet obtained your level of badness, you are the master, but we better stop before we get throw off the Thread!

My Daughter's Father

Not great subject matter for me to work with. This challenge made me realize how much I love to select the subject rather than be the subject. That made this one hard for me, therefore I felt like I had to participate.

I'm the type that rather be on the photo taking side of the camera and hate when it's turned on me...so be appreaciative of this effort, lol...I'm actually surprised. This is actually the 2nd attempt at turning my camera on me-

EXIF
taken with a D80, 35-70mm attached
f/stop: 4.5
Aperture: 1/60
post processed in Lightroom, watermarked in Photoshop.

Congrats, Dave. You've embraced this challenge and rose to the occasion. It's not easy to turn the camera on yourself...unless you're a narcissist like Pete. ;)

If you were MORE photogenic, you wouldn't have to hide half your face! :)

And these ain't chicken legs. They are more like TURKEY legs! :)

I figured that it would have been that glare off the chrome dome might have burnt out the camera sensor! :)

Besides, it shouldn't be the HANDS the stalkers go after! Just ask most any woman. :)

GOD, I LOVE this place!
