"Street Photography"

Ok, enough of the easy stuff that can be done in your living room.

This challenge is designed specifically to get your butts out of the house and push you creatively!

"Street Photography" is pretty much anything Urban related, like Public spaces, graffiti, people, subways, streets & alley ways, wealth, poverty & culture. Something that truly captures the feel of urban life. Get IN the city for these submissions. Cityscapes and anything taken from a distance (like across a river etc) will not cut it. Everyone has a city...let's see it!! If you are extremely rural, get creative and use what you have, but make me believe it was taken in a city at least. Obviously, the more creative, powerful and emotional, the better. I don't want to just SEE the city...I want to FEEL it as well.

I do not expect many entires for this, but hope you all prove me wrong.

Actually, I'll go a bit further than that.

I don't expect a lot of submissions this week either, and here's why: this is a real challenge. I do not want to diminish the value of our weekly challenges here. We all move outside of our comfort zone when we participate in these by putting someone else in the driver's seat and let them pick our subjects for us. This is how we grow and get better. But while most of these challenges push our boundaries, none will push our limits like this one. This one is personal. It's not about the subject or about post-processing. It's about you.

Good luck, everyone! I hope to see lots of photos this week!

If it doesn't stop raining, I won't get any shots this week. "Street" or otherwise. I have a few ideas, but was wondering if the shot is expected to include people as in the example? My ideas will include street shots, but there is rarely a crowd of people.

based on the description, seeing things like graffiti, alley ways etc....and "people" being listed seperately, I would guess it is safe to say that it doesn't have to have people in it.

Us poor old country boys hate getting into the city. Mainly because thats where all the cops are and I have to be perlight.

(Did ya notice the accent in there?)

I will be waiting until the last minute on this one because I don't drive and its about a 10 mile walk into town.

This ought be FUN!!!

Thats a really nice pic Curt. You captured that "early morning" feel nicely. I love the architecture and perspective.

I don't think it falls within the specified dates of being taken though, since you came back from Sweden a week ago....unless you are there again? (can't view exif at the moment)

I had to look at that photo 3 times. Would've sworn it was a model!

No that photo was taken from my apartment on the 3rd. floor in a city called Soderhamn in Sweden.
It was early morning (I have a 6 year old, no sleeping in...lol). Anyway there was no one on the street that early.
So I took that shot.

This challenge makes me wish I had a wide angle lens, I should be getting one soon, but not this week. Oh well, this should be fun! :)

Well I tried posting a picture to this weeks challenge, as far as I know it was submitted though I haven't seen it as yet so I probably submitted it to somewhere in cyberspace.!!

Joe, it doesn't show up as submitted on this forum. Follow these steps (anybody else who can clarify this better for Joe, please jump in)

1. resize your pic . . . longest edge should be 800 pix or less.
2. in the quick reply box , click the "insert photo" (circled in red on the pic below)

reply2.JPG

3. The following screen will open -- click the "browse" button (in red) to find the pic on your computer. Then click upload.

If it uploaded, the above screen will close..

Let us know if and where specifically you're having trouble.

Thats ok Helene, I can never seem to follow the prompts anyway.I don't understand what its asking me to do?
Don't waste your time, I sent pictures to the gallery at least I can do that. The one of the street scene in front of the Hotel St.George is the one I tried to enter into the challenge before I got lost in cyber space.
Again thanks for all your help I appreciate your effort.
I still say the best thing that can happen to computers is to let me have a swing at them with my fathers 50lb sledge hammer!!!!
It always worked first time every time without fail.!!!

Fighting Urban Decay.jpg

"Fighting Urban Decay"

The downturn in the economy has made it very difficult for small towns to fight urban decay.
Here in New Bern, apparently the locals thought that planting some trees would be a helpful idea.
It don't look like its working.
Real bummer!

Hi Helene, I'll take another whack at uploading to the weekly challenge, I will need a step by step list of instructions to follow so I dont get lost like yesterday.
