Night Photography
Weekly Challenge Oct. 27 - Nov. 3

Your challenge this week is night photography. This is a very exciting and interesting challenge! Read up on how to take long exposure shots, because this subject is a challenge all by itself. Here is one great article to help get you started!

Be sure to visit the Weekly Challenge Rules & Guidelines for more information. This thread will be closed on Nov. 3rd...so get those photos in!

The Rules

  1. Photos must be posted to the thread in order to be considered for the challenge.
  2. Any photo submitted for a weekly challenge must be taken during the dates specified in the challenge thread and taken by you! Because not all EXIF data can be verified, we will use the honor system here.
  3. Challenges will be judged solely by the winner of the previous week. There will be no individual voting.
  4. Only one photo entry per member, for each challenge.
Note: Because we are having issues with creating new categories in the Gallery, you will no longer need to upload your photos there also.

There will be no cash or prizes awarded for the Weekly Challenge, unless specifically noted by the site administrator. This is a member-run contest, and the purpose of the Weekly Challenge is to encourage member participation on the forums and to keep you taking pictures!

Any photo will be accepted for the challenge. Edited/straight out of the camera, it does not matter. You are left with complete freedom to do whatever genre of photography you wish to do, and your own interpretation of the challenge subject.

I like night photography the only thing is I got too excited about getting some night shots that I took some photos for this weekly challenge a day to early. So I had to get out again and take this picture. Oh well I was forced to take more pictures and have fun doing it, too. I plan to upload some pictures to the photo gallery that I took on Tuesday.

I'm happy with it. This evening was my first attempt at night photography. Out of a dozen images that I took around town, this was the one that turned out the best. Very fun challenge!

I have to agree, great shot even has that Haunted House look to it. Interesting, we have to color shots and two black and white shots so far. Wonder what is going to take it this week. Going to have to look at some of my other photo's I took in black and white, bet I'm going to kick myself for posting so early, but my weekends are Thursday and Friday Nights. Good Luck all, great shots so far!

Thanks for noticing the theme, LOL. I couldn't resist. The old courthouse dormers always reminded me of the Addams Family.

Hmmm.........I've never taken a night shot. I just might have to see what I can come up with. I have zero experience with night photography, so this will definitely be a challenge for me.

Bring a tripod, and don't be afraid of whole seconds as a shutter speed - you'll get the hang of it and wonder why you haven't been shooting this style before. Unless you're of the proverb: "Early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise", you'll enjoy it from time to time.

Here in Winston-Salem, it is very cloudy and overcast. It kinda sucks the light right out.
I hate to do it, but I am gonna have to pass on this one. If you had seen my attempts, you would agree with me.
But this night stuff is something I am going to try harder at.

This week's challenge is now closed.

The winner of the previous challenge (Recurring Patterns) was khawkins2001. He issued this challenge and will be judging the entries. When a winner is chosen I will notify them via PM and that person will come up with a new challenge for next week!
