Changing Seasons
Weekly Challenge Sept. 15-22

It's that time of year again. Here in the midwest U.S., fall is approaching and the tell-tale signs are popping up all over the place. In other parts of the world, it's time for spring. Your challenge for this week is to capture some of these changes.

Because this is the first Weekly Challenge, I'm giving everyone some extra time, so get out there and take some pictures!

Be sure to visit the Weekly Challenge Rules & Guidelines for more information. This thread will be closed on Sept. 22nd...so get those photos in!

The Rules

  1. Photos must be posted to the thread in order to be considered for the challenge.
  2. Photos should also be uploaded to the Weekly Challenge Gallery so that EXIF data can be verified.
  3. Any photo submitted for a weekly challenge must be taken during the dates specified in the challenge thread and taken by you! Because not all EXIF data can be verified, we will use the honor system here.
  4. Challenges will be judged solely by the winner of the previous week. There will be no individual voting.
  5. Only one photo entry per member, for each challenge.

There will be no cash or prizes awarded for the Weekly Challenge, unless specifically noted by the site administrator. This is a member-run contest, and the purpose of the Weekly Challenge is to encourage member participation on the forums and to keep you taking pictures!

Any photo will be accepted for the challenge. Edited/straight out of the camera, it does not matter. You are left with complete freedom to do whatever genre of photography you wish to do, and you own interpretation of the challenge subject.

I like the premise of the weekly challenge. Unfortunately, here in Florida, there are only two seasons: Hurricane season (June 1st - November 30th) and nearly perfect weather season (December 1st - May 30th) Haha! So I am out on this week's challenge, but I look forward to seeing what the subsequent challenges bring.

I understand completely. In more moderate climates, environmental changes may not be as noticeable as they are in others. In this case, I would refer you to the quote above. This is true for any future challenge. In the spirit of friendly competition, here's a few more words of advice:

Think outside the box. Since this is my challenge, I will be judging this week's entries. As you may notice from my previous posts, I tend to have artistic leanings and may interpret a photo differently than others. The theme here is "Changing Seasons". While the description listed encourages capturing environmental changes, there are other things to photograph.

How about a photo in the kitchen of someone reaching for a pepper shaker with the salt sitting nearby? That's "Changing Seasonings" but has a certain humorous twist, which can be appreciated by most.

Good luck!

Anthony, this is really well thought out. Thank you for putting it together. It's so nice to be given a little "direction" . . . kind of like homework! I encourage everyone to participate. I myself plan to work on this this week!

Best Regards

This week's challenge has remained the same since it was posted. See the first post in this thread for details.

The most sure sign of the seasonal change is the yearly migration of the Canadian Geese southward.
This is a gaggle of Canadian Geese at a bend in the New Haven River waiting for the alpha to take the lead South.
I stopped counting at 135 and still had only counted a small fraction of them. I hope to make a panoramic of all of them to upload for y'all.

I'll toss one in.
Sac fields, today, ~30 miles from downtown Sactown.
Backroad cruisin', blowin' off some steam with my camera as my trusty companion.
Theraputic.
Found more spaces I'd been through but not taken the time to shoot.
"Wonder where THIS road leads?"

Better to get out and create than implode and hope to not EXplode.
'Prickly old thistles' would be a great way to describe my attitude as I went out on my foray...
A bit of croppin' and spiffin' cleaned it up good. :p
Yep, both the pic and the 'tude got a nicer look now...;)

Sorry, exif data not transferred to thumbnail...

Autumn comes slowly to the high country. The first indication that it's around the corner are the mountain meadows turning gold with "indian summer" wildflowers.

You know, if you 'shopped in a couple of cherubs, this could be one of those inspirational pictures!

Kinda like "The lone grape quickly turns into a raisin!" kinda poster!

That sure is a beautiful picture though!

Well, you know I live in the "land of enchantment"!

I'm glad to see you back at the forum, Pete . . . I've missed your humor and "smart aleckness" :)

Thanks for the comment!
