My first wedding photo shoot (kinda)

I attended my cousin's wedding ceremony last Saturday. Although the couple hired two "Canon" photographers, I stayed out of their way during the actual wedding ceremony as a courtesy. I was one of the sponsors so I had to tuck my cameras away. I was able to shoot some prior to the wedding and post wedding ceremony. If you have time please visit the link below and provide some feedback. I was more biased since I took the pictures of my relatives and much less on the groom side. Although, what I did was more of a voluntary work and the paid "pros" are supposed to do the rest.

I used my D800E with 24-70mm f2.8 and SB 900, D3s with Nikon 70-200mm f2.8 VRII and SB 800. Thanks.

Looking to the pic at the link you posted, I now one thing fort sure that you Glenn are a truly great photographer. I believe it doesn't matter what kind of gear you are using the result will be great. You have a hand, an eye and you are gifted to be a great photographer.

What I like is the yellow decoration, ties, etc. I love yellow. BTW, Yellow is the Color of the King of Thailand. And it also is the color of Monday here. Almost everyone wears on Monday Yellow to show their loyalty to the king.

Great shots QT. I especially liked the candid shots where no one was posing. I also liked the portraits as well.

BTW I see you're San Diego now. If I lived there I would be hanging out in La Jolla all the time.:)

What a fun wedding! My daughter is getting married next year, and I hope everyone will have as much fun as your family did. Your photos were great... much better than staged formal pictures with everyone looking stiff.

You have created great memories for yourself and your whole family. Your cousin's children will look back at these many years from now and be grateful to have such a record.

Just today I put a 24-70 2.8 on order, to arrive in a few weeks. Already have a 70-200 2.8. Glad to see you did so much good work with those. Now all I need is a Zenfolio account...

Did you have your Speedlite on TTL or manual? Any difference in the way you balanced the flash in the daytime shots v. the nighttime shots?

Thanks Micheal for your feedback. I really appreciate it. The yellow did stand out and gave it much color. :)

Thanks Pete. If I only had an opportunity to gather all of the bride's maid, best mens and the rest of the couples, I would have gotten more images but that was reserved to the paid "pros". I'll probably visit La Jolla one of these days along with the Balboa park area.

Great shots Glenn, looks like you were in a few of them as well.

Thanks Kevin. As usual, I brought my tripod and remote control so that I can be in the photos as well. It worked well for me.

Thanks Blade. I noticed that the paid pros didn't took a lot of picture and failed to capture a lot of the scenes during the wedding even though there were two of them with two cameras strapped around their shoulders. I don't know their contract but that is not my business. I took what I thought was important and my cousin appreciated it especially that the images were already available and "free". :D

I used TTL throughout the entire event. I use flash as often as I can but that is just my preference. The two photogs were using prime lenses without flash except when it actually got darker for them. A good flash diffuser would have probably created a better and even light distribution since I was only using the built-in flash bounce diffuser.

Great captures Glenn! I'm sure they'll be more than happy with your shots.

Thanks Marcel. Since this was my first time to shoot a wedding as a spectator, I really don't have a particular style like the formal type shots.

Maybe someday but I am not looking forward to it.

Very nice, Glenn! So how did you feel while shooting? Did you enjoy it? I ask only because wedding photography definitely isn't my thing. ;)

I definitely had a lot of fun since it has been a while since I was able to shoot that many pictures. The only part that I hate is the post processing since my carpal tunnel makes it painful to use the computer. :(

Great shots! And fantastic image quality. I come from landscape photography, but was asked to do a wedding of our friends next year, so I'm slowly learning how to portraits. So far I struggled with skin tones under natural light. Skin colours in your pictures look very natural. How did you balance flash and natural light? There are some pictures, with a sun-lit background with your subjects standing in a shade. Where was the flash then? On top of your camera? Sometimes you can see reflections in the skin, but quite a few pictures a very finely balanced. Really, very impressive set of photos, I'm sure the married couple and the guests will appreciate it!
