Would you shoot a pro gig using D800 (D810)

The question behind the question for me is whether to swap my D4 for a D810. So as there are not many D810 in circulation, I wonder if you would shoot a paid gig using the D800, or is it not so suitable for hand held, and fast changing gigs?

Is there something you don't like about your D4?

How many shots do you process per session?

How large do you usually print? If you print larger than 24x36", then maybe the D810 would be a great choice, but not all of us do.

How long have you had your D4? Sometimes it takes a while to get used to a newer camera with a different layout. If you've had your D4 for a while and are used to it's button layout, you might find it hard to change just to have more pixels. Pixels are nice, but if you don't get the shot, you don't get the shot.

I don't think there is a single person on this forum that can answer the question you are asking yourself.

I have been using both D800e and my D3s on indoor events such as birthday parties where a speed light is a must have.

both compliments each other and even with their lower noise capabilities at higher ISO, i still need to use a noise reduction software to improve the image quality. That is the reality. You can see some of the images that I took last month at www.gqtuazon.com to have an idea. They are not the best but are good enough for me based on the shooting condition.

D4 too tall in bags, and too heavy. Biggest "issue" is at 16Mpx it shoots the same as my Fuji X-T1, so not enough differentiation. Speed and low light. Whereas the D810 would provide a significant step up in resolution.

Shots per event: around 800 to 1500

Had the D4 for almost 18 months.

I do LOVE the D4, but at the end of the day it is a tool not a person, so if the D810 was to be a better fit, especially at no extra cost, than it is worth considering. I agree it is a difficult and personal decision, that's why I am soliciting different people's viewpoint.

Appreciate the feedback.

I ma not a pro but I used my D800 for a wedding shoot and I think they turned out well, so if I can do it then a pro will have no issues. Check out my website if you need to.

If I had a D4 I wouldn't even LOOK at a D800/810! :)

But to answer your question.....yes, I would definitely shoot with either the D800 or the D810 (if I had one). I started shooting weddings with a Pentax K1000 back in the day, then with my D200. So yes, why not with a D800/D810? :)

Sure, if you say so. :)Besides I think they are made for different shooting scenarios. If I was to shoot lots of outside stuff, like landscapes and such, I think the 800 would serve me better.
D4 is more like an inside camera I think.
I don't have either one, it's just from what I read. I could be totally wrong.

If I was you, I'd rent a D800 first and see how much longer it would take to process all your 800-1500 shots per event.

One of my question you haven't answered is "how large do you print". If, for the size you usually print, the X-Ti is fine, then maybe get another one...

It's not that easy to make these kind of decisions, but I'd rent before I'd get rid of my D-4.

If I could afford a D4, D4 all the way. My 600 feels "heavy" over 5100, but I learn to like it, and so on. Low light and better AF capability is something to consider, plus the FPS when you may need them. I'd save up and just have both.
