Looking to buy Nikon Lens and Lighting Suggestions

Howdy!

I am looking to expand my new lens collection (I am new to Nikon). I have a Nikon D610 with a 16-35mm F4, 80-200mm F2.8 and SB910. At present I cannot afford the new 24-70mm F 2.8. Does anyone have a 24-70mm D version of this lens or a recommendation I should purchase?

Secondly, I sold all of my old lighting equipment and would like to buy new lighting equipment. What do you recommend? a single light with a softbox, or more than one light? If so, what do you all use? I look forward to your help and advice

Best,

Jerry

Wow Jerry, your looking for allot of gear. Good for you. Curious, what did you shoot with before? Not sure about the D-lense. I'm sure others will be along in a minute. Lighting equipment, Boy there's allot of choices out there and i'm sure your aware that you get what you pay for. Me, I would look for a digital head. They seem to pump out more than the others. They also keep their color temp consistent through out the power range. In fact if you Go to Adorama's site and click on Adorama Tv and look at the video about comparing watt seconds. Pretty amazing how different equal size heads differ on output. I have a few Profoto Air heads and other than getting a power pack and heads as two separate components. Profoto is right at the top of the list as far as quality. I don't use their modifiers simply because their nuts on what they cost. You can do allot with just one light and a reflector but having two, three or even four heads does make a big diff in what you can do. Or you can simply shoot with only speedlights. I know a few guys that only shoot with them and the results are identical, cheaper, more portable, don't need to plug them in etc...

You could do a lot worse than the 24-120 F4 lens. Unless you actually need 2.8 it's sharp, got VR and has the extra reach. A lot of people on here like myself have this instead of the 24-70 2.8 and it's rarely cash that makes the decision. Having owned mine for about 20 months I'm still happy that I wouldn't swap it for the 24-70 2.8, even if it was cost neutral.

The 70-200 f/4 is a fine lens. You just have to decide what your needs are and what you can afford. You will not go wrong with either of them

Hi Jerry. What is your budget? Your budget will drive what we recommend to you.

There is no Nikon 24-70mm f2.8 D lens. It is only AF-S. The previous D model was the Nikon 35-70mm f2.8D (push / pull type zoom lens). cThe other alternative for a medium range FX zoom lens are: Nikon 28-70mm f2.8 AF-S (used - discontinued), Nikon 24-120mm f4 VR, 24-85mm f3.5-4.5 VR lens. Tamron has a 24-70mm f2.8 lens also. You can research for these lenses and see if they are something worth considering and fits your budget.

Same goes with lighting equipment. I personally use Einstein E640 by Paul C Buff. Most people use the Alien Bees. You can visit their website to see what interest you.
