Nikon D90 - body only

I guess, dear Rebeka, you would like to hear our opinions regarding the (possible) switch from D3100 to D90. I think it would make sense only if you own some good AF-D lenses (or intending to buy some), since with D3100 you cannot use their autofocus feature (only manual focus). Otherwise, I don't see any reason for switching, especially if you like taking videos too (D3100 has better video system)...

Exactly, Whitelight. I don't think she's looking for opinions. I have one sitting around with an extremely low shutter count (12K), but a) I'm across the pond, and b) I'm seriously considering a dual spectrum IR conversion on it.

I am looking to buy a camera and I am looking to buy either Nikon D90 or Nikon D5100. Both seems to be a good, when I read about it from here - TechArena Community. But I am looking for the best dslr camera that I can get, so please let me know which one to go for. Thanks

If it was me, I'd go for the D90. It's just a fantastic camera that used to be Nikon's best consumer model. I've never heard anyone complain about the IQ gotten with this model.

Seems like this thread has derailed. OP seems to be looking to buy a D90, if so, the replies would be way off topic and clutter.

i have owned and used 5 nikon dslr bodies and the d90 is the only one of them to give me minor problems.cha error on inserting a card. af crashing requiring a repeated double button reset and fee error with the kit lens.generally a nice enough camera though.for a little more cash you can get a used d7000.

I'd keep the 3100 better sensor...................

You sure about that?

The D90 has a few features that I like over the D3100 personally;

  • LCD window on top.
  • Two wheels for adjustments instead of one. Ease of making asjustments without having to navigate the menu.
  • D90 has the built in focus motor, allowing you to AF with more lenses.
  • 5fps

I have both the D3100 and the D90, and I'd take the D90 over the D3100 every time due to the features my friend Joe mentioned. Plus the D90 has a much better quality feel to it, to me. :)
But both can take some great photos, and what appeals to me maybe different than what appeals to others. :D
