video to dvd
I have just purchased D5100 and want to download video to a dvd that will play on a blueray player. Can nikon video be converted to a format like avchd or other format that will work in dvd and play in HD?

The answer is yes. But...you will need to use a video conversion program such as handbrake or AVS video converter. Also, a lot of video editing programs and DVD/Blueray burning programs will do the same thing but it is more hit and miss.

What Tobrew said
You can encode just about any video to be burned onto a DVD, it's just a matter of getting the formatting right. The highest resolution you can get with the D5100, 1080p, will not be accomplished unless you encode for blueray and have a blueray burner. DVD video's highest resolution is 720p.
