Doesn't apply to US lenses from what I can tell. Any lens with serial number greater than 2xxxxxx is OK. Mine is 6005224. I don't mind being first, in fact, I kinda like it. There's always a bit of blood on the bleeding edge.

Nikon has different information posted on the Nikon USA site. https://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/19490

yep mine needs the new firmware update
the firmware is updated on nikons dime for shipping both ways to the service center nearest you .
The problem is if you rotate the zoom ring while the shutter is half pressed it will switch to manual focus until you release the shutter.
af turns back on as soon as you do another half press .
same thing happens if you press and hold the af button .

I need to investigate this happening , because it might prove handy for stopping the lens from hunting when the 2x converter is on it .

Does anyone actually do this? If yes, then why?

I never have done this with any zoom , but ..........
If it works like I think I should be able to use it to my benefit with the 2x converter on .
and if in fact that is what it does, I'm not doing the firmware update , as it will be a quick way to kill the beast from hunting for focus with the 2x converter.

Yeah, people shooting wildlife or sports are likely to zoom with the shutter half pressed on occasion.

if you have the focus set on single it's not an issue at all ,
and yes my lens which is 600xxxx has the issue . you really notice it when on continuous focus , just touch that zoom ring and off goes the focus . let off the shutter and focus is instantly back on as soon as you half press . I would imagine af-a and 3d tracking to do the same (did not try those )

Mine went back to Nikon USA today. Had no problems in the 3 sessions where I used it. I didn't try to get it to mess up, but I'm guessing it would.

Time to focus on fall colors.

Wonder why Mr Hogan wants this data.

About third item down
New Camera and Photography Articles, Nikon DSLR camera and lens
I'm not going to judge the man or his motives, but it looks like he is collecting data to use in a class action lawsuit - it is also very possible this man is the salt of the earth trying to collect data to encourage Nikon to fix via firmware (on the cheap).

The lawsuit would have the outcome of getting every lens owner maybe 20 bucks and the lawyer 20 bucks per owner. It's good work if you can get it. I have a feeling this particular one has nothing to do with lawyers and the guy wants the data for a useful purpose.

mine works fine on 7100 and 7000
at f5.6 my shutter was 1/500 and at f11 it was 1/125

with auto iso on the only thing that changed was ISO as it should have as I have min shutter set to 1/400 with auto iso
how areyou supposed to contact him ...................there is no contact info or link on that page to report your findings to him???

Surprised more manufactures haven't come up with a lens dock/connection like sigma has. It would have saved them a lot of money by allowing customers to upgrade firmware directly. Seems lenses are becoming more electronic, my Oly pro lenses all have extra Fn buttons on them. Seems like a small investment would save a ton of money down the road and increase customization.
