New Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 VR announced today

Nikon has finally come out with the 24-70 f/2.8 VR. Anyone going to upgrade from their older 24-70 2.8? It's a 4oz heavier and it takes a 82mm filter compared to the 77mm on the older one and cost $2396.95. That's $600.00 more than the older version.
I sold mine a while back because I was using the 24-120 all the time. I bought the older version the first week it was available and just sold it a couple of weeks ago. I don't think I will take that money and run out and buy the new one since I like the 24-120 so much.

I am with you guys. For what they are asking for some of these lenses I could upgrade my camera body and probably pick up another prime lens.

Have they said if they will continue to produce the old one alongside the new one? If so, would anyone speculate a price drop happening with the old one?

The price of the new may maintain the value/price of the old, which is now a bargain compared to the new!

Not sure, really, where I'm going with this but...

Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8: MSRP $2,400. Let's assume, say, $2,100 "street price" and, say, $1,600 for an import/grey copy. Weighs in at 2.4 pounds or 1,070 grams.

Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8: $1,300 on the "street" (B&H), while grey market copies sell for $850. Weighs in at 1.8 pounds or 825 grams.

The Tam' is (an estimated) $700 cheaper and more than half a pound (245 grams) lighter.
