I'll buy it if it's under 1100 dollars and has a USB dock.

I'm not holding my breath for anything Nikon anymore. Just waiting on the Siggy 15-600 C..That's all I need. ::what::

I remember the good old days when all I needed was a D3100 and an 18-55

My prediction is that it will be soft on the long end like every other similarly priced long telephoto zoom. We shall see.:)

I was looking at the MTF charts compared to the 70-200, to see how it would complement or replace a 70-200 + TC 2EIII.

My conclusion is there is no comparison: At 200mm the f2.8 will still be preferred I guess, but the new lens seems optimised for 500mm where the MTF chat seems to way outperform the 70-200 @ 200mm. So 100mm longer and better; it might kill 80-400 sales, but I feel that Canon like with the 200-400 will have follow this one. (Canon does have the 400mm f5.6 and even with Canons optimistic MTF seems to underperform on this 200-500).

I think the birding community will start ordering soon.
