Nikon 55-200 Trouble

Help! So I sold my beloved Nikon D40 today and purchased a new D3300 because I thought the scratch in the body was causing my 55-200 lens to not focus. Tried using it with the new camera today and had the same problem...when trying to focus it on something in the distance it keeps moving and wont focus or take the pic. Once it finally does, if it does, it's blurry. Could it be a setting or is my lens damaged?

Make sure the lens is clean.
Clean the contacts on the lens where it attaches to the body.
Make sure the Auto Focus switch on the lens is switched on. Turn it off and on several times to make sure the switch is clean and making good contact.

If none of this works then the lens is probably no good. But on the bright side the D3300 is a much better camera and you will really enjoy it.

You can buy a refurbished 55-200 for $119

Welcome to the forum, you could check you have the camera set on focus priority, which in theory will not let you take a picture unless its focused.
