Has anyone tried this metal ring yet to replace a broken one?

Not me but it looks pretty simple enough.

I have seen a tutorial or two on making your own. I'd be all over one if someone makes them

Someone does make them, posted link above. Looks like good quality too.

I bought this one and it worked like a champ, but it wasn't metal. I decided to go with this one because I wasn't sure I could actually do the repair myself and this way was only out $8 rather than $40. If it breaks again, I might go with the metal one.

I finally clicked the link last night (no access from here at work).
Trouble is, the 18-55 & 18-105mm mount is NOT interchangable. Unless they have extra mount holes, this can't work on both.

For $56, it is 50% of the price of a new 18-55 and 25% the price of a used 18-105mm LoL. I'll pass

Yep, did the swap on a 18-55mm and 18-105mm after reviewing web sites and youtube. Went very smooth
