Anatomy of an explosion

Here's a cool series of photos I took at the MCAS Miramar Airshow. I'm guessing this is jet fuel or maybe gasoline? I was lucky enough to catch the fuel before it was ignited.

was this dropped from a plane or set off on the ground? You may need a camera with faster fps, i did not see the $$$$$ signs in the flash. :)

Just about all the air shows now use a Pyro team who set up the explosives in advance along the edges of a runway.
During the show, a jet (or jets) will fly past and the Pyro team would set off the explosives. it's just too dangerous to try dropping explosives near the crouds viewing the show.

Yes, Mike150 is right, these were set to go off when a plane came flying through to mimic a bomb being dropped. What surprised me the most when I got home and looked at the photos was the white liquid that is being shot up. I'm guessing it must be either gasoline or ? that is then ignited on the way up. From where I was standing you could feel this big blast of heat coming off these fireballs. There were several times in which I was busy shooting the jets and then suddenly I could feel this massive blast of super heated air hitting the side of my face. This was my first air show and I'm not hooked.

Last year, my son Bénédict finished high school. His favourite teacher was the chemistry teacher.
I was told that there will be a spectacular (in school proportions) explosion in one the school yards.
The teacher asked me to take some unforgettable pictures of the event.

First at the lab, where they are going to prepare the bang, and then, without countdown, the bang
itself. I was given the permission to go anywhere I please to setup as long as it is inside the school
building.

The only chance I had was on a tripod with my fastest finger on the trigger. I gave a head sign to the
teacher that turned around to pass the signal to a student. The guy looked scared like hell but everyone
was watching so he couldn't back off! The teacher told me that I have only one take! …did my best!

This was the first time in my life I was given flowers by a man!

Good Morning,

I’m actually working in a Paris-based communication agency. I’m contacting you because we would be interested in one of your photography. This is the third from the top.

Can you tell us your best resolution for this picture because we are interested on using this picture. Would it be possible for you to let us use it ?

Thank you in advance for your feedback,

Best regards,
