Day 1 (1/1/2013)

My first photo was taken at 12:15am on New Years Day. It is my poor attempt at light painting '2013' with sparklers :)

I can't start my 365 Project off with such a poor effort so I offer this slightly better photo.

Day 2 (2/1/2013) Apologies to all US based members but I will never get used to writing dates month/day/year :)

Christmas decorations in the Melbourne CBD.

There's no rule that you have to write the dates this way, go ahead and do them however feels right for you. I'm sure we'll figure it out.

Having lived in Europe for so long I sometimes get confused here in America on the date format.

Day 3 (3/1/2013)
I had every intention of getting out during my lunch break and taking my day 3 pic but got caught up in my work. I tried to get a few shots on the commute back home but wasn't happy with any of them. When I got home, I found that my wife had setup the portable pool for the kids as it had been a scorching 36 degrees (96.8 f). Found this little toy just floating on his lonesome and thought it might make for an interesting shot.

Day 4 (4/1/2013)
This is a photo I took on my way into work this morning. Not sure its my favorite pic but I won't be around a PC for the next few days and wanted to put my pic up for the day. If I take any better shots before the day is through, I will upload on Monday.

I've wanted to take a shot of these train lines for as long as I've been coming here. Hopefully when my Sigma 70-200 gets back from repair I can get a different view on the scene.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Personally I like this wide view. I will also be interesting to see what you come up with using the other lens.

Day 5 (5/1/2013)My wife is Serbian-Orthodox and her family celebrate Christmas on 7th Jan so this weekend was mainly around organising for the second round of Christmas functions. We had a house full of guests in the afternoon so by the time everyone had left and I remembered to take my shot for the day, it was already dark. My father-in-law brought around a bottle of his Rakija which is a highly potent Serbian brandy! Whilst i'm not much of a drinker, I did think the bottle made an interesting subject.

Day 6 (6/1/2013)My father-in-law cooking the pork spit over hot coals. A Christmas eve tradition.

My contribution to lunch yesterday. Once the pork was done, the garlic prawns went on!

Day 7 (7/1/2013)
Southern Cross Station during my morning commute to work.
I had to bump up the ISO as it was hand held. Might try a long exposure shot from this location one day when there's a bit of movement and I have my tripod with me.

Day 8 (8/1/2013)
Went for a walk during my lunch break and came across this scene in an alley way. Thought it would work quite well as a selective colour shot. One thing I realised though is that I need to stop using Auto ISO so much. I tend to forget its on and then I take a shot like below and it is just a little too grainy.

Not sure if you know this but the upper and lower range of the auto ISO can be set, at least it can on the D7000, and that way it won't go out of a range that is acceptable to you.

Yeah I have it set at 3200 I think. My comment was more around not being lazy and thinking about the lighting. At the moment I'm thinking about composition but not necessarily DOF and shutter speed. My whole purpose with doing the 365 is to improve my technique. I need to have a greater influence on the image if I want to improve.

+1 for me too (on working on technique this year), I'm finally learning how to shoot 100% in manual mode. I don't get why it was so intimidating in the first place! The ISO setting always throws me off too from time to time. I'd love to see your station pic in a long exposure shot - I bet that would turn out pretty neat!

Day 9 (9/01/2013)
Crazy day at work for me and didn't get a chance to get out of the office. We had a major IT meltdown with some equipment and spent the afternoon on the tools.
Server room.jpg

When I finally left I went for a walk with my son Michael. Tried a few things but none of them worked out.

Ended up at the park.

I would like to say that all are good but the picture in the park is my favorite of the bunch!
