Ron's Almost Every Monday Project

The object of this new thread will be to photograph the same scene almost every Monday morning for a year. I will stand in the same spot, use the same lens, my Nifty 50, with the same aperture setting,f8, and my default ISO of 400. No filters will be used and the photo will be edited, but not cropped. The only camera setting that will probably change is the shutter speed and on low light Mondays I will shoot with the aid of a monoped so that the shutter speed can float.
I have picked this scene because I like the way the morning sun spills over the top of the hill and the scene itself will not change except to reflect the changing seasons and the weather. I will shoot in sunshine or in rain and when the grass is green or "hushed with snow". i am anxious to see where this leads. _AAA6348 - Version 2.jpg

Cool idea, but why are you shooting it with the same settings every time? (Oh, nevermind. I missed the part about changing shutter speeds. Ok, carry on!):)

BTW, I just thought of something. How do you know you will have the same camera in a year?

cool idea Ron, maybe at the end you could make a time lapse with all 365 pics?
Great idea @roy 1961 Since all the photos will be in one folder, I just need a program to blend them together. Sorta of like those little cartoon flip books we had as children. And to @ Blacktop I baby my camera and it does not really have that many shutter activations on it, so I hope it will be still going strong for at least several more years. There are a lot of D7000's floating around out there if I need to replace it. I had my fg for 15 years.

I will be following this thread. You happened to pick one of my favorite subjects.
What prompted you to do this project?
I like cemeteries and i like photographing the same scene in different seasons and I wanted a scene that would only change do to changes in the light or weather. I am expecting that most weeks the scene will be little changed from the week before except when we have extreme shifts in the weather. And thank you for your support.:encouragement:

Sure thing.
I think that would be a good exercise for me since exposure seems to stump me... Photographing the same subject many times under similar conditions
has to make the settings stick in your head.

I used to take my black lab with me to roam the cemeteries. I miss my graveyard buddy. She also loved astronomy.

Well, I have never had a dog that showed any interest in Astronomy so she must have been very special. I see you have a D300 which is an excellent camera. I do not know if you shoot in one of the programs or in Manual. But I have found it actually easier to shoot in Manual and rely on my meter to keep my exposure on point. I did this exercise years ago by photographing the same tree in different seasons. But I allowed variables to creep in I am determined to not let that happen this time. You might want to consider a similar project to try yourself and if you posted your results I would very much be interested in following it.

Well, I have never had a dog that showed any interest in Astronomy so she must have been very special.

She was special. She just liked poking around the yard when I had my scope out, and she preferred being out at night. She would get real excited if I put on my hooded sweatshirt and started hauling the scope out. In fact, the tail started wagging as soon as the sweatshirt came out of the closet.

I am liking the camera, but I have so much to learn. I have a light meter that I need some practice with, and I am trying to learn manual set-up. The short time I was using a light meter with film, I did so much better with consistent exposure not so much with digital for some reason.

Thanks for the tip, inspiration and support. I think I will find a subject and start shooting. I am sure it will help me.

Well post your dog photos because everybody likes dog photos. And take lots of photos. Digital cameras are great teaching aides in that you get instant feedback and I am sure there are many tutorials on how u tube in regard to your particular camera model. So get out there and keep on shooting. You have an entire forum of great photographers here willing an able to aide you.

Thanks Jeff. Since I pass within 100 yards of this shooting location every morning it does not seem to be such a great task. I selected Monday's because while I might skip work some days, I always go in on Monday

Wow, I love the streak of sunlight zig-zagging through the tombstones. Great timing for this shot.

Shot this photo 10 minutes earlier than previous weeks. Even that can make a difference. Will have to tighten up my time frame.
