Decided to put this thread in here as it will hopefully be mainly a image thread,I will be venturing into areas i have avoided in the past through basically a lack of interest or more interest in other things,so any helpful input would be appreciated.

Sky's

This morning was one of those times when the sky was not great most of the time,as i dont have a polarizing filter i decided to try and expose for the sky and then adjust in ACR,the picture is nothing only took it for a chance to play in PP.

No PP

Another thing that gave me problems was a magenta cast when i tried to recover shadow areas,my first thought was the difference in the sensor to the ones i have been used to,fortunately i think the problem is a bit easier to solve.when i bought the lens the shop didnt have any good UV filters in for it so they gave me one out of the junk draw, its not a UV though its a skylight, pictures in good light with no or very little recovery needed are ok put poor light and recovery is a different story.

Next time give highlight metering a try. I always use it when shooting landscape that has a large portion of sky in it.

The writing on this is not totally sharp edged but on the original is 100% clear,is this due to reduction of image size, have i made it worse by reducing to 1000pixels in one go,i read somewhere that reduction should be done no more than 10% at a time, this would need the image reduction action repeating about 18 times, you cant create actions in Elements 11 you can download them and use them but you have to buy them and find one thats right.
If the answer is yes then one more reason to jump in CC.

I always reduce from max size to 1024* and the D810 files are even larger but I pre-sharpen the large file before downsampling and then re-sharpen the output file again.

On my screen a lot of your images look oversharpened to me, maybe this is why?

If you talk about the preview, I can't do anything about that. When the site downsamples them to 600*, the key no longer matches the compression and gives horrible artifacts. The full images are all fine, at least on my retina. I don't use unsharp mask so I don't have artifacts.

If your browser scales them beyond the size I sharpened at, it's possible artifacts appear again. That's the downside of JPEG.

Good call. I rarely click on images on the site to maximize them.

More playing today,i have avoided spot metering since the disastrous results i got in my 35mm days, never thought though with slide film what you got was what you where stuck with,my first attempts with it today have opened my eyes, the first one is a deliberate stupid shot small bird against the sky,no camera adjustments at the time and only converted to jpeg for posting,no PP.

Then i thought what if it had been a rare bird, could i pull any thing out of it so i played a bit more.

This may turn into a double learning thread as i am now learning the full photoshop, this was an image i took with my 70-300,decided to see how much it would crop now i have extra tools to play with.

Still loads i could have done but it is a learning curve.

Still quietly :D trying to make a lens decision, just been playing with some more old 50-500 shots now i have CC,not saying i found it as sharp as my 150-600 but i did find the balance a lot better and a walk round lens going to 50mm on FX would be nice.
