My new shiny AF-S 85 mm f/1.8 G lens arrived only yesterday. I bought it mainly for portrait work, but since it is such a good quality short telephoto, I decided to give it a try in urban photography. I went for a walk around Dundee and took some pictures. I didn't take any other lenses and forced myself to think what an 85-mm prime can do. Below are a few examples, the full album is here.

I'm curious to know why you feel it was a mistake. Was the increase in price for the 1.4 just not worth it considering the IQ, focus, etc?

I really didn't find the image quality matched the price difference, though it may have been my copy ... I replaced it with a Sigma 85 f1.4 which was sharp. had a lovely creamy bokeh and cost less
