Hello Nikonites,

I have been researching about the following two lenses NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G vs NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G and the conclusion i found was the 1.8G performs better than the 1.4G.

Although why NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G is more expensive than the 1.8G ?

Thanks a lot for your input.

and my question is why the 50 1.8G costs more than the non "G"...
Maybe the non G's are old, out of production, only available used ?
I've got a 50 1.8 AF (non-D even)

Even I have the AF a relic of film days.

1. The G has a motor, non G does not
2. G is newer better coating
3. G is sharper
Camera Lens Database - DxOMark

The D lens has less distortion and scores better on DXO. So if you have a motor in body the "D" version is a better buy, but if not then you need the G lens for AF

more glass to make the lens 2/3 stop larger in aperture. personally the 50 1.4g isnt worth it. its slow to focus and both 1.4/1.8 perform the same at open so youre not gaining anything for $200 more. build is the same, size is the same.
