Just got myself a new lens (Nikon 85mm 1.8 G) and so far very happy with it. Below is a quick shot of my wife Katie just with window light at F1.8 on the D600

Nice head-shot. Good capture of the eyes. Did she know you were taking her picture or was this an ambush?

No it was a kind of ambush to be honest. She was busy and I just stopped her as she was walking past me

Not a very flattering picture. She looks annoyed, like she really didn't want you to take her picture, and resents that you did so.

Thank you - Yeah it was not posed really I just stopped her for the photo to try the lens but she was certainly not sad or annoyed. I was just going for a more 'Thoughtful' look if that makes sense.

But on a side note Katie is VERY kind and thoughtful and will do anything to help anyone - and she works as a nurse

Yeah it looks like she was not happy (she was) but certainly not displeased at all - I was going for a serious look rather than a smiling portrait.
