Look to spend say up to £500 I dont mind used provided the unit is clean and provided its not been to the moon and back in miles translated in to shutter counts that is..

P.S. I hope this is the right forum as I was unsure where to drop it in the Bodys catogary

Don't know what your local pricing is like, £500 is not USA, probably United Kingdom I'm guessing. I started digital with a great D70, went to a D200 and recently upgraded to a D7200. I would guess a D7100 or D7200 would be a great choice if it meets your budget. A D500 would probably bust your budget and frankly, you don't need it unless you are doing a lot of high speed sports type shots.

That is 648.57 US Dollar

A lot of this depends on what lenses you have now. You will have to stick with DX in your price range and still be able to use the lenses you have.

Not sure who you can order from across the pond but a Refurbished D7100 would be a great choice. You get a like new body with a warranty. If you were in the US I would suggest this deal

Nikon D7100 Digital SLR Camera Body - Factory Refurbished includes Full 1 Year Warranty

I am sure some of our UK members will stop by and maybe they will know where to buy. I would get refurb over used any day.

A d7100 or a d7200 is where I would be looking. You might be tempted to look at d33x0 and d5x00 families. While great cameras, you might be frustrated by the very different user interface since you lived with the d70 for so long. No focus motor either on these bodies if you have older lenses to support. I had a d70. I used it many years, then I got tired of carrying it around. I saw a great deal on a d3100. Small, light, relatively cheap. It got my interest back, but in a year or so, I was missing all the controls that I enjoyed on my d70. I ended up moving from the d3100 to a d7000 and immediately felt at home again.

Since you mention more frames per second... there was some unhappiness with the small buffer on the d7100 when shooting raw. With a decent card, I don't think its a big deal, but do look into it for yourself. You can find videos on youtube showing the d7100 performance with different sd cards. Just search 'd7100 buffer'. Plenty of good speed shooting jpg, but we will talk you into shooting raw if you do not already.

Hi Brent

Thanks for the reply and recomendation. I had been thinking along the D700o/1/2 route as £500 equates to around $700 so a D7100 is just under where as a D7200 might be a little over. I also see a couple of lensesin your collection I have hung my nose over namly the Sigma 150-600mm and the 2.8 Macro. What is your thoughts on the 150-600? please but it will have to be via pm rather than in this thread I think?
Also iv been following one of your other posts which much the same happend in loseing my original CS6 CD but after following your thread have been able to reinstall on a new i5 laptop iv just had and setup. So thanks also for that

Best regards OS

Hi

Well it looks like I am being pointed down the D7000/1/2 path which is most possibly the best way forward. Which is also strengthened by other's mentioning the total unfamiliar use of the user interface of the D3000 or D5000 series of body's. Plus these would put a huge dampener on my favourite and most used lens with the lack of a focus motor in the body's of the later mentioned series of body's.

That said im going to have to choose between the D7100 and D7200 body So can I ask what do you think the main differences are between these two body's please both the 4s and against please? other than just the cost that is? Thanks

regards Os

P.S. Also may I add that while im going to be getting a new body ID like to have my faithful D70 adapted to be a IR body.. what are your thoughts on that Or should this be a new thread ?

I was in you position about a year ago. I was going back and forth on D7100 and D7200. I opted to go with the D7200 because it has a bit better low light performance and a little larger buffer.

Both models are excellent but the feature improvements in the D7200 sent me in that direction. I also got a very good price on a refurbished model that allowed me to make an earlier purchase than I planned.

If you can swing it, I would highly recommend the D7200 body as Danno also suggested. Take a look in my gallery. The Egret, Ground Squirrel, and Moon shots were all taken with the Sigma 150-600mm C lens. I really am impressed with this lens. But be warned, it is BIG and HEAVY. The only thing I don't like about this lens is that Sigma recommends turning off the VR before dismounting the lens. Easy to forget to turn it off or back on. Also my Dragonfly photo was taken with the Tokina 100mm lens, which is also a great lens. Hope this help you.
