Vacation planning

I was allowed to buy the D5300 now in order to become totally familiar with it before our big vacation. To celebrate my big 70 my wife and I are taking a cruise from Vancouver BC down the Western seaboard of the US and Mexico, through the Panama Canal and then the Caribbean and Bermuda finishing in Florida. From there we are traveling by Amtrak to New York, then to Chicago and finally to Everett WA from where we drive home 32 days after we left in September.

So, now pay attention because this is the important part. Any suggestions made by members of this forum as to what gear should accompany the D5300 on the trip will be very seriously considered as virtually essential by SWMBO consequently, you Guys and Gals can have a very advantageous affect on my NAS.

Please don't let me down, I need lot's of suggestions and advice on what to get for this journey.

I would suggest the AF-S 35mm 1.8G as well as your other lenses. You don't mention how many batteries you have. I would have a spare if you don't already. Along with a good stock of memory cards.

I'd say for a trip that long, given you have a lot of gear already, I'd be looking at making sure you have capacity for lots of shots, including backups. Are you taking a laptop? If so, I'd consider a USB drive to make backups on the road, or lots of memory cards. The last thing you want on a trip of a lifetime is a dropped laptop and all your shots lost! It does sound like a great trip, I hope you enjoy it!
