What an Awful Feeling

Well yesterday I lost everything I've bought since I started photography. Besides my camera and one lense it is all gone. We went to the zoo yesterday. During a short stop at a picnic table behind the primate house I left my bag behind. After I realized I had forgotten it I went back and it was gone. All my lenses, SD cards, and my brand new Nikon bag. One of the worst feelings ever. To add insult to injury the lense I had on the camera was my 55-200 that I was using for the first time. The shots I took all day were horrendous. If it wasn't my only lense I would probably never use it again. This feels absolutely awful. Anyone else had this feeling before?

Sorry to here you lost your camera items, when I renewed my house insurance, I made sure my camera equipment was covered,

So it might be worth giving your insurance company a quick call.

I did something very similar with an old Olympus trip back in the 80s... to make it worse, the camera belonged to a really good friend of mine who had lent it to me for the weekend trip. I have never felt so bad in my life!

I went to the lost property office twice over the weekend, and also to the police station, just in case some kind hearted person had handed it in, but no luck.

I hope your gear turns up!

After hearing stories like this a dropping my first nikon and shattering it I learned that insurance is extremely important. Most homeowners insurance will allow you to get riders on your insurance to cover cameras. I have riders on all my camera gear, my wife's jewelry and my guns. Riders like this are not very expensive at all.

That is awful! I don't tend to take my gear with me except for camera and lens. But I've been meaning to go get inland marine insurance, and I guess I should get at it soon after hearing this. :(

That would totally awful, just got wrenching. Do you have your serial number noted down? or do you have a photo you've taken to get your serial number? (it is in the exif data). There are things you can do eg websites that help you recover stolen gear

Stolen Camera Finder - find your photos, find your camera

Stolen Equipment Registry - photo.net

Lenstag: A Free Online Gear Registry that Aims to End Camera and Lens Theft

CameraTrace: Camera Registration & Recovery by GadgetTrak

and no doubt many more. Can't hurt to put it out there.

+1 for property riders. It's absolutely cheap compared to the alternative.

Sorry to hear ya had to go through that. Perhaps if you can list the serial numbers online, they can catch the bad guy.

Horrible feeling indeed - I feel for you.

I'll echo what has been stated, call your homeowners insurance company for sure. Depending on your policy and company, it MAY be covered :(

Sorry to hear what has happened... I'm another with items added to home insurance... I also use Lenstag, and keep photos of my gear incl. serial numbers.

One thought - Call the local pawn shops and camera dealers, get them on the look out. Chances are, whoever took it will want to shift it quick.
