Hi there,

I'm on a tiny island in the middle of nowhere and I have mold n my lens!

Can anyone give me a dismantle guide so I can clean it?

I won't be back to civilization for months!

Thanks

If you cant do anything else strong sun light (UV) is supposed to kill it,it would still need cleaning at some point,do a search on sunlight killing mold in lenses.

If lenses were so easy to 'field strip and reassemble' a lens, everyone would be doing so. You usually need specialized tools for such a task. Tools you most likely do not have available to you.

but you have internet.

use a coconut and smash it, then clean the mold and use crazy glue to put it all together ;)

JK. wont happen. its beyond your skill. its very complicated. send it in to a pro lab. im not even sure theyll be able to remove mold.

not only the tools are required but also a high class cleanroom which is environment controlled. no point opening the lens to get rid of mould and introducing additional moisture and dust!
i also suggest googeling "how to avoid mouldy lenses"

For once my slackness is actually in some way sensible. I come home, dump my camera bag on the floor, open it to get stuff out, leave it open and leave it sitting there :D Too lazy to put it away :D Bonus!! It is helping prevent fungus :D

Yep, wide open and you need to see the focused light coming out the back.....keep moving it during the day to track the piercing sunlight.....

Might take a bit of time.....weeks even. Do not put that thing on your camera until she is clear and keep it away from other gear!

Careful, it will start a fire on a the wrong surface like hardwood.....
