How can I start/stop video remotely with D7000?

Hi, first post here..

I would like to start/stop video remotely with my D7000, but haven't found a method yet. I would be willing to go either wireless or with a cable, doesn't matter.

Rather than get up and restart the video (at the camera) each time I am filming myself and possibly another person I'd be interviewing, I'd like to be able to just hit a button somewhere and start/stop the recording.

• I purchased a remote cable release (Phottix TR-90) but found it only can control the shutter for photographs, not start/stop video.

• I then inquired with Nikon about the WU-1a wireless mobile adapter; at first one of their 3rd-party "expert users" told me in a chat window that I could use it with the D7000 (even though the compatibility chart lists the D7100), but an actual Nikon rep later informed me she was mistaken, that it would not work.

I heard people talking about a USB OTG (on-the-go) cable, is this a possibility? Any ideas or leads? Thanks for checking the topic out, hope someone can help!

If you work tethered with software like "Control My Nikon" or one of the others you can have the camera constantly sending the video to the computer and then remotely tell the computer or DVR to record or not.

Thanks for the reply. We've got an aging desktop we can't bring with us during a shoot, and no reliable laptops either.
Is there some way to connect to the smartphone with a cable, to control the Nikon D7000's recording?

Thanks dennybeall, but I did mention in my original post that I've looked into that option; Nikon informed me the wireless adapter will not work with the D7000.

Its successor, the D7100 is compatible, but I've got to figure something out with the camera body I have.

Any other ideas? Anyone know an option using a cable? USBTG? (USB to-go)

If you go into the menu you can select the shutter release button to start/stop video. Now using a cable remote, it will start/stop video.

I have been looking at menu settings for over an hour , searched em all like 10 times and cannot find a setting to set the shutter button on my D7000 ................ ???????????????

this is works absolutely FANTASTIC on my D7100 body :)
with this set in menu when the little switch on back for live view is set to video the shutter press starts live view with half press and full push starts recording .
When the Live view switch is set to picture the camera works as normal with out having to go into to menu and switch it back .
