Now from the title it does not seem all so dilemma-ish but i am wanting to purchase either of the lenses with a view to the future.

Currently use a d3200

The Sigma (macro version)- I would buy that for practicing, getting used to what i enjoy taking photos of best (action shots/wildlife) with the view that at some point i move to an fx format body and keep this lens and dx body as back up.

OR

The tamron (Di VC USD)- buy this knowing it is a quality lens for its price but would also use it on an fx body in the future... HOWEVER, i do aim to buy a 70-200mm, whether it be nikon or tamron. (i have heard that the tamron is actually better than the nikon, sigma and canon ones)

For those more knowledgable with more experience, please share what you think would be best!! :)

I once owned the Tamron 70-300 and vote for that one. The Sigma would make a good travel lens, but it is not a true macro lens - it does 1:3 and minimum focus distance is 39cm. Further, it is not a lens designed for FF cameras. It is a DX lens, whereas the Tamron is designed for both DX & FX. Yes, the Tamron is right on par with the Nikon version and the VC is just amazing. However, you are somewhat comparing apples and oranges here. Waht do you want? An all around, go anywhere, shoot anything lens? Or a more dedicated telephoto zoom?

Just to add a correction so that you aren't mislead. Though I am a dedicated nikon man, I have to say Canon's 70-200mm f/2.8 holds the top spot in the 70-200mm lenses. But frankly they are all awesome lenses from what I understand!

Unfortunately way out of my budget in this lifetime! Lol :)

Thats what I am trying to decide! for when i get an fx body, i would keep my d3200 and sigma+35mm as travel lenses. i would then start my collection of fx lenses. or would i be better off getting the 70-300mm so that i can use it on an fx body but also as travel lens???

The Tamron is not a travel lens. However, you would be better off with the Tamron as a telephoto zoom. If you can, get both. If you don't want your focal lengths to overlap to much, get the Nikon 18-105, another great "travel" lens.

If wildlife is your real passion in photography then I would get the 70-300 and I would get the Nikon myself but either way it can produce nice images. uploadfromtaptalk1411562565584.jpg

I have no experience with the Sigma or Nikon telephotos but I can say, I own the Tamron 70-300 and it's a fantastic lens. However, I am really wanting to try the 16-300.
