Looking for suggestions on websites

I currently have a Zenfolio pro account and I am contemplating if I should renew my subscription or look else where. Is smugmug any better? Open for suggestions and why you recommend it. Thank you.

Personally I like and use SquareSpace, nice and easy to use, all the coding and back end is done for you, all you need to do is build a website how you want it

I have not tried that but will give it a look. Thank you for your suggestion. :)

I must admit, squarespace does look nice too - and if I were to ever leave smugmug, I would probably go to Squarespace.

Did you want to do blogging on your webpage? If so - smugmug sucks for blogging.

Kevin - just posting pictures, set the prices so that they can download or order prints. Basic stuff.

ok - smugmug does all that quite simply too, There are some nice templates - all are pretty easy to customise too.

Certainly look at Squarespace. I found out about them right after I setup my first pass on Zenfolio.
While I'm happy with Zenfolio for now, I'd have probably used Squarespace if I heard sooner.

I've been a smugmug user since 2007, and added a second account as I look to set up more of a "professional" presence.

I've also looked at Squarespace, and really like the analytics you can get about your site from them.

I'm also playing with a WordPress and trying to see what I can roll myself, figuring if it's something I can work out with free software it's something I can share here.

The one I haven't worked with is Zenfolio, but it is also highly recommended along with smugmug and Squarespace.

Is there something that you feel is missing that one of the other platforms can address? Things you really like about Zenfolio?

I use Squarespace. It is pretty easy to set up a nice looking web site using their templates. But there is no easy way for an event photographer to sell prints. I think they have plugins for Smug Mug and/or Zenfolio, but I don't want to pay for both. I'll probably switch to one of the others when my subscription ends.

I was not aware of that, I find it suprising that Squarespace has nothing like that built in.

Hmm there is a commerce section built into Square Space (I havent used it) but it also lets you "outsource" if you like a different platform

Another, unless you invest about $100 just to test the waters, problem of wordpress. No easy way to setup whole galleries with sales of individual shots. Otherwise php or not, I like the overall versatility and customization of the platform.

I'm still under the impression that content like a blog and some other little things may ultimately help bring traffic in, which will make the baseline of it being a photography site seen.

Yes, Squarespace has an e-commerce section. What I said was "There is no easy way for an event photographer to sell prints." You have to input title and price data for each individual item (image). Who has time for that when each event could have hundreds of images?

I think Zenfolio and Smug Mug make that process easier, hence the plugins.

I know that NextGEN Gallery Pro or a version above that's about 70-100$ has integrated pricing option for whatever gallery you upload in bulk, but I'll struggle a bit with some free solutions I found that don't quite integrate into my theme as well.
