Legality if selling certain subject matter (Photographs)

There are some places, ie certain tourist attractions (movie sets) that have posted signs that photos taken there cannot be sold or posted online without getting a permit. $ for an hour or something similar. I can understand that, but what about private houses or particulars of the house, windows, doors etc. Are there any legal ramifications? I am thinking that if it can be seen by the public without trespassing, etc. it should be ok to sell a photo or post a photo of such a place.
What do others think or know concerning this?

Thanks

You can generally shoot a photo of anything you can see from a public location, but if a photo shows identifiable private property, you need a property release to use it commercially (make a profit).

Posting a photo without intent to make a profit would probably be OK, unless it could be considered defamatory or disparaging.

The main thing to avoid in the UK is children, some over exited lady is highly likley to kick off and cause problems, the same lady will post her most private details on face book often along with family pictures.
