Professional indemnity vs Contract

Hi all,

I am just wondering what's the difference between having Professional indemnity included in your photography insurance vs having terms and conditions written in a contract that's signed by the client(s)? I don't do much paid photography work but I have been quoted £120 by Glover and Howe to insure £5k worth of gear. This is semi-professional cover but doesn't include Professional Indemnity nor Public Liability. To add Public Liability adds £40 on to the cost. I am waiting for a response to how much extra having Professional indemnity would be.

I was thinking the US was the only place you needed insurance against lawyers.

Seriously, I'm guessing insurance needs are likely entirely different between there and here. Hopefully someone in the UK will have some input.

Yeah, perhaps the US is the only place, i don't know but I want to keep costs down to the minimum while still having good cover. I do shoot Weddings, perhaps one or two a year but I have terms and conditions in my contract that explain what happens if problems occur. I don't know if this would act as a sort of Professional Indemnity.
