In Thought

in thought (monotone) by LK_335, on Flickr

was going through some older sets to see if I had anything worth while buried. Found this one and spent some time with it this morning.

This shoot was broken up into three stages. We did a basic portfolio poses stage, then a "fine art" stage (which she's not built for the pose I had in mind unfortunately), and then a conceptual creative stage (which bombed due to experience on both myself and the model and wardrobe limitations). This image is from the "fine art" stage. I originally had her in a pose where she was suspending her body in the air between her neck and one foot as anchor points. It's a tough pose to hold for any length of time and I've tried it with a few different models. I need to do it again with a petite model thats also very fit as I think thats the only way I'll pull it off.

Anyways, this image was taken between attempts at the suspension pose as she was relaxing her muscles. It wasn't posed at all and she didn't know I took the picture until the strobes popped off. Which I think makes the image.

Image was lit with a pair of Elinchrom Dlite 4's. I had a 100cm deep throat octa on camera right. about 2 feet above camera and 4 feet away from camera. The other light was on camera right facing straight on, and set for a mild fill flash just to control shadows.

The broken vignette was added in post to help create mood. Very little was actually done in post. Some beauty edits to get rid of a few leg bruises and a pimple or too. I tucked her tummy and smoothed out her shorts to make them a little more flattering, something I try to never do, but I figured it would be good practice.

She is so small on that chair. Is she a small lady or is the chair really big? Or some combo of?

and she didn't know I took the picture until the strobes popped off. Which I think makes the image.

Makes it such a better capture when it's real.
