More Sunsets...

Down the shore this past weekend and I was able to grab a few shots of the sunset just after the sun went down...I'm trying a few new things, like I spot metered for the sky to get the colors in and leave the boats in the foreground dark...just wondering if I overworked the skies at all...

If your intent was to leave the boats somewhat in the dark, then you did a fine job. I like the composition as well.

I agree with @Blacktop, looks like you hit your mark for what you wanted to accomplish, and I think both look great?

Nice colors in that sky

Thats exactly what I was trying to do. There are usually some nice sunsets down there, with my fiancée's family's house being right on the bay, so I try to get some good shots every time I'm down there. My goal was to try to catch as much of the colors of the sky as possible. I read about spot metering and gave it a try. I've seen some great sunsets, but never before have I seen the reds and purples/pinks in the sky like that. I wanted to keep the focus of the picture on the sky. I did very little editing in Lightroom, just darkened the blacks a little, darkened the orange a little and bumped up the clarity. I didn't want to overwork the colors, if I slid the luminance too far right it looks wrong...
