I would really love a detail analysis of this photo and what could be improved. It was a spur of the moment request from the Bride at her place. I bounced flash and adjusted as needed. The back drop is crap but this is what I had to work with.

I think the position of the one on the left takes away, she looks like she was squeezed in. I get the couch is only so big, but she doesn't look as comfortable as the others.

yeah there was no posing, they just sat down where they could lol. But I am sure she was comfortable as champagne will numb lots of areas lol.

I like the picture a lot. I noticed a little reflection on one of the girls forehead. It looks like you'd be able to bounce the flash off of the ceiling and possibly be able to avoid the reflection and shadows on the walls from the girls. All in all though I really like it!

The flash was bounced off the ceiling, maybe I needed to use Manual flash and not TTL. I also think I had the small diffuser which I am guessing threw some forward light.

I think it's a good photo under hard conditions. I do feel that the hard shadows cast from the ladies are a bit distracting. Maybe if you had screened directly in front of the flash, so only bounced light would hit them, they could have been avoided.
Just my thought... :)

Yes I think next time I will put up a black card to block the forward light. I have seen various ones and they are an easy DIY. I could always PS the shadows out, but they are not that distracting to me ;-)

I use a black piece of foam with a hair elastic to keep it in place. That works perfect and costs next to nothing.

Scott, for an impromptu shot it's lit pretty well and sharp. I think it's a nice spur of the moment informal that the bride will like.
